WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL GENERAL INTELLIGENCE (AGI)

What can we possibly do without technology? The procession of a very simple food must passed through a certain technology or more before we consume them. Think them as ovens, heaters, microwave etc. Our lives are glued to technology, and it is indispensable to the most conservatives all being in the 21st century.

Now imagine the world without technology? Can you? A world of zero means of transportation or adequate water system, no mobile phones, no petrol refinery, no good healthcare system, and the list almost continues indefinitely. That will be a damaged world. We will run into anarchy and before you know it, just in minutes, human would start dying in thousands and millions.

But science and technology is a field that human not only has expressed themselves, but as well bettered life and showed the omniscience of man. Humans fly in a machine, farther than birds from Lagos to Tokyo. We preserve our food to eat them whenever we want without the feel of it getting spoilt. We speak to love ones in another end of the earth, and we have severally flown outside of the earth, and back.

Earlier, science had come true as necessity, but artificial intelligent came through as both necessity and “exploration for fun”. It was trying to answer three questions, firstly, “What more can machine do, How easier can life become and How do we get machine to do what we can do?” these are without doubts the underlining character of Artificial intelligence program in science and technology. Artificial intelligence only existed in sci-fi novels and films in the late and early 2000, but then possibilities and eventualities came fast and startled us and starred us in the face so soon.

Many in the tech knew AI came fast, but then they were woken by another line of AI alone immediately, which is Artificial General intelligence. Artificial intelligence is to get machines to do what humans can, but artificial general intelligence has changed the game, which is making machines feel like they are humans and smarter. Nothing has ever been of wonder in the history of mankind as the birth of AGI. Getting machine to think as we do? Damn! That can’t be, right?. But if we continue in the denial, it would hit us faster that AI.

Let us use a picture to depict this, AI would auto-drive you to your location, and inform you of your daily tasks, a pre-loaded actions of course. The AGI will not just auto-drive you to your location, but will discuss your task with you, and then self-repair itself in case it gets bad, or transformative if weary. Many humans do not even know their problems but AGI would identify the issue it has and self-repair, without emotions too. That is 100% automation. The major proponents of this course see it as another field of AI which should be encouraged, while those who have some criticism on it feel it is another aspect of artificial intelligence which should be highly regulated, or even fairly employed.

The implication of artificial gerenal intelligence has serious implication, which we can only be see in the reasons given by Propositions and oppositions to AGI progress. Both parties cannot deny it is coming, and how fast it is happening. But the progressives think it’s a good idea, since science as a whole has always tends to better life. But the large chunk of reason lies in the conservatives and their view, that this might be a wrong idea, and we should thread with caution.

Elon Musk, the Tesla giant believes strongly much progress in AGI would hurt us. Speaking at MIT in 2014, Musk believes that as AI gets smatter than humans there is a tendency that the comparance would get to the level of machines seeing us as dumber, and he surmised that we have to be careful about the way we call the demon on science.

Many have objected to this view, notable among the critics was the head of Artificial Intelligence for Facebook, Jerome Pesenti who strongly attacked Musk views as being Ignorant, and even questions how much he understands what AI is all about. The general feeling among strong proponents of this view is that, Musk is really discouraging AGI, even when he is all about it.

It is right to conclude that no matter the position we take about AGI and advancement of AI and science and technology as a whole, the train has set loose, and there is little or nothing to do to stop this. Whatever position we take as well, and whatever implication we try to draw from it, there is nothing we can do until the implications is dawn on us. We cannot say what position is right or wrong, until we start feeling it. We are at the mercy of our own deed.
